How to make a signature practice sheet

  1. Type your name the way you want to sign it, for example first and last name, or first initial and last name. Or draw your signature in the box.
  2. Tick up to four styles, or pick a practice plan to set the traced and free rows for you.
  3. Trace each style, then use the free rows to try your own version. Add the practice log to track two weeks of daily practice.

Making a signature your own

Start from a clear model, then simplify. Trace the style you like best a few times, then write it freely in the blank rows. Most people drop or merge a few letters over time. That is how a signature becomes personal while staying consistent.

Consistency matters more than flourish. A signature you can repeat the same way every time is more useful than a fancy one that changes.

Use a plan. Start with Mostly tracing for the first few days, move to Half and half, then Mostly freehand once the shape feels familiar. Fading prints each traced row a little lighter, so you lean on the model less as you go down the page. The 14-day log gives you a place to note how each session went.

Trace a signature you drew. If you already have a version you like, draw it in the box with a mouse, finger or stylus and turn on Add rows to trace my drawing. Your drawing becomes the model row and the rows to trace.

Your own name only. These sheets are for practicing your own signature. Practicing someone else's signature to pass it off as theirs is forgery. That is also why the page never makes a standalone signature image you could paste into a document; a drawn signature only appears inside the practice worksheet.

After you change your signature. If you settle on a new way of signing, ask your bank whether you need to update the signature they have on file, and use the new one when you next sign or renew an ID document.

A cramped signature often starts with a tight hold, so try a relaxed pen grip before you practice.

Example: a three-style page

Someone who has printed their name for years types "Maya Patel", ticks traditional cursive, modern cursive and Dancing Script, and picks the Mostly tracing plan with the practice log. After a week of daily pages they switch to Mostly freehand and settle on the modern version with a simplified P.

Questions people ask

How do I practice a new signature?

Trace a clear model of your name a few times, then write it freely on blank rows. Repeat daily until it comes out the same way each time. The 14-day log helps you keep at it.

Can I compare cursive styles for my signature?

Yes. Tick up to four of the eight styles, and each one gets its own block on the sheet.

Is my name saved?

No. The sheet is drawn in your browser. Your name is not stored or sent anywhere.

Can I trace a signature I draw myself?

Yes. Draw it in the box with a mouse, finger or stylus, then turn on Add rows to trace my drawing. The drawing stays on the page and is not saved.

Can I download my signature as an image?

No. These sheets are for practicing on paper, so the page doesn't create a standalone signature image to paste into documents. A signature you draw only appears inside the worksheet you print or save as a PDF. For signing documents online, use the e-signature tool your bank or document service provides.

What size should I practice at?

The sheet starts at 1/2 in, close to the size of a real signature. If the letters feel cramped while you learn the shapes, switch to 3/4 in, then come back down to 1/2 in.
